Cheltenham tips – Thursday 15th March
Good luck with your Cheltenham bets this year!
JLT Novices Chase – Terrefort
First race of the day looks an absolute corker and we’re going for the hotly tipped second favourite Terrefort.
Pertemps Network Final – Forza Milan
This is a big open race and Forza Milan at around 14s is my pick for the win. Comes into the race on decent form and has enough in the tank to mount a serious challenge for this one. As an each way selection I’m keen on Love nor money – but take it with Paddy Power who are paying 6 places.
Ryanair Steeple Chase – Cue Card
I’m going against the favourite here with the ground still looking heavy in places after some over night rain. This looks like a shoot out between Un De Sceaux and Cue Card and at 7s Cue Card looks a lot higher value. No each way picks on this one as it’s a small field and all bookies are playing 2 places.
Stayers Hurdle – Sam Spinner
This is my pick of the day, a brilliant horse who’s not bothered by the heavy ground. The current favourite and I’d expect the odds to shorten throughout the day building up to the race. As an each way bet I’ve got my eye on Wholestone who’s around 19s* if you take it with a bookie playing 4 places like Coral, or slightly higher at 23s with Betfair for are paying 3 (I’m taking it at 4 places).
Here’s Sam Spinner (orange hat) beating L’ami Serge who also runs in todays race.
Cheltenham tips – Wednesday 14th March
1.30 Ballymore Novices Hurdle – Samcro – Winner
This is the horse to beat this festival in a lot of peoples eyes and its easy to see why. This is an incredible horse and we’re hoping to get Wednesday of the a flyer with this one. As an each way bet Brahma Bull at 40s looks okay if the bookies are paying 1/4 odds.
2.10 RSA Chase – Black Corton – 4th
This is a great looking horse whos chances are being talked up by connections including the jockey. They’re also in great form winning 5 of the last 6 and finishing second once. Odds vary a little on this one with some as high as 9s* like Betfair and some as low as 7.5* like Sky Bet and Sun bets. Nothing really grabs me for an each way bet on this race.
*Odds correct at time of writing 13.3.18 – 2pm UK time
2.50 Coral Cup – Topofthegame 2nd
Hopefully this horse will live up to its name! Trainer Paul Nicholls has stated that this horse is looking in superb and is bang on target in terms of training to run in the Coral Cup (Interview with Sorting life here). At the time of writing its the third favourite in the race and that could come in by the time the race goes off. As an each way shot Spring town Lake is in good form to place.
3.30 Queen Mother Champion Chase – Altior 1st
The lower priced favourite in a battle potentially with Douvan who lost here last year, although was carrying an injury. This looks one of the easiest picks of the day.
4.10 Cross Country Chase – Cause of Causes – Pulled up
Winner here last time with a triumphant run and looking good to go again this year. As an alternative I like the look of Josies Orders around 7s. No each way picks in this race either.
Tuesday 13th March
Supreme Novice Hurdle – Get a bird – Lost
The favourite for the race and looks a top quality horse. Won last time out at Punchestown the same as previous winners Min and Douvan. Main risk comes from second favourite Kalashnikov.
Offer of the race – Money back if the SP favourite wins* – Paddy Power – Details here
*Place a bet of up to £10 on any of the races on the first day at Cheltenham, and get your stake back as a free bet if the SP favourite wins the race. Applies to the win market and win part of each way bets only. Full Ts and Cs apply.
The Arkle – Footpad – Winner
For me this looks like a good day for the favourites at Cheltenham and Footpad in the Arkle looks set good to get a favourites double on the board in the first 2 races. Footpad has won in the last 3 races all of which have been, like the Arkle, a small field of 5 or 6 horses. For an each way shot Brain Power looks decent at around 8s but will need a good run to compete.
New Customers can get Footpad at an enhanced 40/1 to win the Arkle Chase. Max Stake £1. Winnings paid in free bets. Full T&Cs Apply. 18+|Gamble Aware.
Champions Hurdle – Buveur D’Air
I’m skipping the Ultima Handicap as it’s a too wide open field for me but the Champions Hurdle looks like a one horse race all day. Faugeen returns with check pieces but is now a 10 year old and will struggle to keep pace with the juvenile horses realistically.
Mares Hurdle – La Bague Au Roi
The final feature race of the day and for this one I’m going against the favourite with my pick La Bague Au Roi. Oddscheckers Andy Holding is a big fan of this horse and so am I. It’s got great speed and looks to me that it can get the better of Apple Jade on the current ground.
